Looking for Skywire at your business address?
Skywire is mainly a fixed wireless network rather than a fibre network, which changes how you check it and what to expect. Below: what Skywire is, how to check your own address, and what to do if it is not the right fit.
Stem Connect can confirm what business connectivity is deliverable at that same address: fibre first, then wireless or LTE where fibre is not feasible or the lead time does not fit.
What Skywire is
Skywire is a South African fixed wireless network. Rather than running fibre to the building, it delivers connectivity over a radio link from a tower to an antenna at your premises. Its owner, Reunert, which acquired it in 2018, describes a network of high-site towers aimed at areas where fibre is limited or not available, serving businesses, telecoms providers and system integrators.
That makes it a different thing from Vumatel, Octotel, Frogfoot or MetroFibre, which are all open-access fibre networks that ISPs sell over. If you searched for Skywire fibre, the first thing to know is that the core of what Skywire offers is wireless.
Fixed wireless has a different set of trade-offs. It can be live much faster than a fibre build and reaches places fibre does not. In return, performance depends on a clear line of sight to a tower, on how busy that tower is, and to some degree on weather and obstructions. It is usually a fit for sites without fibre, and a good backup alongside it.
Known coverage
Wireless coverage is not described by suburb. What is known:
- • Its owner describes a tower network reaching all nine provinces
- • It is aimed at areas where fibre is limited or unavailable
We do not publish a suburb or metro list for Skywire because we cannot verify one. Whether a given site can be served depends on a line of sight to a tower, so only Skywire, or a survey of the site, can say for certain.
Coverage information last reviewed October 2026.
Stem Connect is independent of Skywire. We do not sell Skywire services, and this page is not provided by or on behalf of Skywire. The name is used here only to describe the network you searched for.
How to check Skywire availability at your address
Because it is wireless, a simple address lookup is often not the whole answer.
- • Contact Skywire directly through its website and give the exact site address. Going direct to the network is a sound first step.
- • Expect a feasibility or site survey step. For fixed wireless, the question is whether a tower has line of sight to the building, not whether a cable passes the street.
- • Ask which tower would serve the site, what speed is realistic at that distance, how the link is shared with other users, and what service level and fault response applies.
- • Ask where the antenna would be mounted. Rented premises may need the landlord's permission for roof or wall mounting.
If you need fibre at this address
If Skywire cannot serve the site, or you would rather not depend on wireless alone, the usual alternatives are these.
Fibre, if any network passes the site
Many sites assumed to be out of range of fibre are passed by one of the open-access networks. Check Vumatel, Octotel, Frogfoot and MetroFibre for your area before settling for wireless.
Another fixed wireless provider
Several providers operate fixed wireless networks, each with a different tower footprint. Coverage at one does not imply coverage at another, so it is worth asking more than one.
LTE or 5G
A mobile-network line needs no survey or installation and can often be live in days. Usage-based and fixed-rate plans differ widely, so check the data allowance against how the site actually uses data.
Wireless alongside fibre
Where both are available, a wireless or LTE line as failover protects the site from a fibre cut in a way a second fibre line on the same route may not.
Other networks: Vumatel, Octotel, MetroFibre, Frogfoot. See also South Africa network and coverage.
What Stem Connect can deliver at the same address
Coverage is never a guess. Send the street address, or a list of sites, and we confirm which options are feasible at each one, the realistic lead time, and the right product for the site. We do not quote from a coverage map.
Business and enterprise fibre
Speed tiers and lead times confirmed per address.
Managed connectivity
Installation coordinated, monitored once live, with a clear escalation path.
Frequently asked questions
Common questions from businesses researching Skywire.
Is Skywire fibre?
Its core is fixed wireless: a radio link from a tower to an antenna at your premises. It is not an open-access fibre network like Vumatel, Octotel, Frogfoot or MetroFibre.
How is fixed wireless different from fibre?
Fibre runs a cable to the building and is generally the more consistent option for latency and speed. Fixed wireless uses a radio link, can be live faster and reaches places fibre does not, but depends on line of sight to a tower, the load on that tower and local conditions.
I am a Skywire customer and need support. Where do I go?
To Skywire or the provider you buy the service from. Stem Connect is independent of Skywire and cannot fault-find or change its service.
Is Stem Connect a Skywire reseller?
No. Stem Connect is independent of Skywire and does not sell Skywire services. This page exists because many businesses start by searching for a network name when what they need is a reliable connection at a specific address. We look at what business connectivity is feasible at that address and tell you plainly what we can and cannot deliver there.
I already have Skywire at my premises. Can you help with that line?
Support for an existing Skywire service sits with the provider you buy it from, and we cannot fault-find or change a service we do not provide. If you want to compare it against what is feasible at the same address, send us the address and we will do that.
Availability and lead times are address-dependent. We confirm feasibility before any commitment.
