Looking for MetroFibre at your business address?
MetroFibre is a Gauteng-centred fibre network that has built in commercial areas as well as suburbs. Below: what MetroFibre is, where it is known to reach, how to check your own address, and what to do if it is not there.
Stem Connect can confirm what business connectivity is deliverable at that same address: fibre first, then wireless or LTE where fibre is not feasible or the lead time does not fit.
What MetroFibre is
MetroFibre, whose formal company name is Metrofibre Networx, is an open-access fibre network operator. It builds the fibre and sells wholesale access to internet service providers (ISPs), which sell their own packages over it. You buy from an ISP rather than from MetroFibre as a retail product.
Its announcements over the years describe build-outs in commercial areas such as Rivonia and Linbro Business Park, as well as residential estates. That is a useful distinction from networks that were built around residential streets first: if your premises are in an office park or commercial node in northern Johannesburg, it is worth checking.
Compared with the others people search for: Vumatel is a larger network that was built residential-first, Frogfoot is concentrated in the Western Cape and Gauteng, Octotel is Western Cape only, and Skywire is fixed wireless rather than fibre.
Known coverage
Known coverage is mainly in Gauteng. Company announcements and builds include:
- • Sandton and Rivonia
- • Midrand, Centurion and Irene
- • Isando and Linbro Business Park
- • Residential estates north of Johannesburg
Some of the published build announcements are several years old, and the network has kept growing since. We are not stating coverage outside Gauteng because we cannot verify it. MetroFibre's own coverage map is the authoritative source, and it is street by street.
Coverage information last reviewed October 2026.
Stem Connect is independent of MetroFibre. We do not sell MetroFibre services, and this page is not provided by or on behalf of MetroFibre. The name is used here only to describe the network you searched for.
How to check MetroFibre availability at your address
The network and the ISPs on it can all tell you, without involving anyone else.
- • Use the coverage map or address check on MetroFibre's own website. Going direct to the network is a sound first step.
- • Or use the coverage checker of an ISP that sells over MetroFibre. It will show whether the address is connected and what packages are on offer.
- • In an office park or multi-tenant building, ask the landlord or park manager what is already installed and whether another network has exclusive access. Commercial parks often have their own arrangements.
- • Check whether the result is connected, passed or planned. Planned is not the same as available.
If MetroFibre is not at your address
Gauteng is among the most heavily built regions, so not being on MetroFibre often still leaves options.
Another fibre network at the address
Vumatel has built in Johannesburg and Pretoria and Frogfoot in parts of Pretoria, and many addresses are passed by more than one network. Check each before assuming there is no fibre.
A dedicated business or enterprise line
Business fibre is usually a different product from a consumer line, with committed service levels and faster fault response, and is often available in commercial nodes where consumer fibre is not.
Fixed wireless
Where fibre cannot be built quickly, a radio link to a nearby tower can be live sooner. Speed and latency depend on line of sight and tower load.
LTE or 5G as failover
Even where fibre is available, a mobile-network failover line keeps a site working during a cable cut.
Other networks: Vumatel, Frogfoot, Octotel, Skywire. See also South Africa network and coverage.

Frequently asked questions
Common questions from businesses researching MetroFibre.
Are MetroFibre and Metrofibre Networx the same network?
Metrofibre Networx is the operator's formal company name, and MetroFibre is the name most people search for. If you see both, they refer to the same fibre network operator.
Do I buy directly from MetroFibre?
MetroFibre sells wholesale access to ISPs, and the ISPs sell packages to you. Its website is the right place to check coverage and to see which ISPs sell at your address.
Is MetroFibre mainly for homes or businesses?
Both appear in its build history, including estates and commercial areas such as Rivonia and Linbro Business Park. What matters for your site is whether the address itself is connected, so check it directly.
Is Stem Connect a MetroFibre reseller?
No. Stem Connect is independent of MetroFibre and does not sell MetroFibre services. This page exists because many businesses start by searching for a network name when what they need is a reliable connection at a specific address. We look at what business connectivity is feasible at that address and tell you plainly what we can and cannot deliver there.
I already have MetroFibre at my premises. Can you help with that line?
Support for an existing MetroFibre service sits with the provider you buy it from, and we cannot fault-find or change a service we do not provide. If you want to compare it against what is feasible at the same address, send us the address and we will do that.
Availability and lead times are address-dependent. We confirm feasibility before any commitment.
